rub out
Remove by friction
Rub out means to erase or remove something by rubbing, as with an eraser on pencil marks or a cloth on a smudge.
In American slang, particularly associated with crime fiction and gangster films, rub out means to kill someone: The mob rubbed him out before he could testify.
This euphemistic sense treats murder as casually as erasing a mistake.
