earlap

Cap's side extension

An earlap is the part of a cap or hat that covers or protects the ear, typically folding down from the main body of the headwear: He pulled down the earlaps of his hunting cap against the wind.

The term also refers to the external ear itself—the fleshy lobe or outer portion—though this anatomical sense is now uncommon.
