A dust ruffle is a decorative fabric skirt that hangs from beneath a mattress to the floor, concealing the box spring and the space under the bed.
Originally designed to prevent dust from accumulating underneath, it now serves primarily as a decorative element: The floral dust ruffle matched the bedroom curtains.
