drygoods

Cloth and notions

Dry goods are textiles and related merchandise—fabric, clothing, thread, bedding—as distinguished from hardware, groceries, or liquids.

The term survives mainly in historical contexts and the names of old-fashioned general stores: The drygoods store sold bolts of cloth and ready-made shirts.

Also spelled as two words: dry goods.
