drop towers
Vertical plunge attractions
Drop towers are amusement park rides that lift passengers to a height and release them into a controlled free fall, simulating the sensation of dropping.
The term also refers to research facilities that create brief periods of microgravity by dropping experiment capsules down tall shafts: NASA's drop tower provides about five seconds of weightlessness.
