drop pass
Leave-behind hockey assist
A drop pass is a hockey maneuver where a player leaves the puck stationary or pushes it backward for a trailing teammate to collect, rather than passing it forward.
The puck-carrier skates ahead while the puck stays behind: He executed a perfect drop pass at the blue line.
The play works best when defenders commit to the original puck-carrier.
