drag bunt

Sneaky infield hit

A drag bunt is a bunt in baseball where the batter begins moving toward first base while making contact, "dragging" the ball along with the motion rather than squaring up to sacrifice.

Left-handed batters use it especially, since their swing already carries them toward first: He beat out a drag bunt for a single.

The technique aims for a base hit rather than advancing a runner.
