downbows
Frog-to-tip motions
Downbows are strokes on a stringed instrument where the bow moves from its heel (near the hand) toward its tip.
The term is standard in string notation and instruction: The passage is easier if you start with downbows on the strong beats.
Downbows typically produce a slightly stronger attack than upbows, making them the default for emphasized notes.
