double stop

Two strings bowed

A double stop is a technique on stringed instruments where two strings are pressed and bowed or plucked simultaneously, producing two notes at once: The violinist executed a series of double stops in the cadenza.

The term extends to the chord or interval produced this way.

Triple and quadruple stops follow the same principle with more strings.
