double distillation
Two-stage spirit refinement
Double distillation is the process of distilling a liquid twice to increase purity or alcohol concentration.
In whiskey and brandy production, the first distillation produces a rough spirit; the second refines it.
The term also applies metaphorically to any process of repeated refinement: His argument had undergone double distillation before he presented it.
