dorp
Tiny rural community
A dorp is a small village or rural settlement, used chiefly in South Africa and occasionally in other former Dutch colonial regions.
The word comes from Dutch and shares roots with the English word "thorpe" found in place names.
We passed through several dorps on the way to Cape Town.
