diving helmet

Deep-sea breathing apparatus

A diving helmet is a rigid, watertight enclosure worn over the head for underwater work, connected by hose to a surface air supply.

Traditional designs are heavy brass or copper spheres with viewing ports, weighted to keep the diver upright.

Modern versions may be lighter and integrate with full diving suits.

The image of the old-fashioned diving helmet—round, with bolted faceplate—remains iconic in depictions of underwater exploration.
