dissertate

Write scholarly treatise

Dissertate means to write or deliver a dissertation, or more broadly, to discourse at length on a subject.

The word is rare and somewhat jocular, typically used when someone holds forth at tedious length: He dissertated for an hour on the failings of modern architecture.

The noun dissertation is far more common.
