diptychs
Two-part artworks
Diptychs is the plural of diptych, a work in two parts hinged or joined together.
Originally, diptychs were ancient writing tablets—two wooden panels that folded shut.
In art, a diptych is a painting or carving on two connected panels: The museum's medieval diptychs showed saints on one panel, donors on the other.
The term extends to any two-part artistic work meant to be viewed together.
