detached retina
Separated vision membrane
A detached retina is a serious eye condition where the retina—the light-sensitive tissue lining the back of the eye—separates from its underlying support layer.
This separation cuts off blood supply and causes vision loss, often appearing first as flashes of light, floating spots, or a shadow across the visual field.
Without prompt treatment, typically surgery, permanent blindness can result: The boxer suffered a detached retina after taking too many blows to the head.
