despawning

Forced digital disappearance

Despawning is the disappearance of an entity from a video game world, the opposite of spawning.

Games automatically despawn enemies, items, or NPCs to manage memory and processing load, or when certain conditions are met: The loot despawns after five minutes if nobody picks it up.

Players sometimes exploit despawning mechanics or complain when desired items vanish unexpectedly.
