delaminate

Peel into layers

To delaminate is to separate into layers or cause layers to come apart.

The term appears most often in materials science and manufacturing, where bonded layers—of composite materials, coatings, or laminates—fail by splitting apart: The plywood began to delaminate after years of moisture exposure.

Delamination is the noun form.
