degenerative disc
Wearing vertebral cushion
Degenerative disc describes a spinal disc that has deteriorated over time, losing hydration and cushioning ability.
The condition, called degenerative disc disease, is a common cause of back and neck pain, particularly with aging: The MRI showed degenerative disc changes at L4-L5.
Despite the name, it's a normal part of wear rather than a true disease.
