default judgment
No-show court verdict
A default judgment is a court ruling against a party who fails to appear or respond in legal proceedings.
When a defendant doesn't answer a lawsuit within the required time, the plaintiff may win automatically: The court entered a default judgment after the company ignored the summons.
The judgment can sometimes be set aside if the defaulting party shows good cause.
