declutch
Free the drivetrain
To declutch is to disengage a clutch, the mechanism that connects an engine to a transmission.
Pressing the clutch pedal in a manual-transmission vehicle declutches the engine, allowing gear changes: Declutch before shifting into second.
The term is more common in British English; Americans typically say "push in the clutch."
