deadlight
Ship's porthole cover
A deadlight is a strong shutter or cover fitted over a ship's porthole to protect against heavy weather or keep light from escaping.
The term also applies to a thick glass window set into a deck or hull to admit light below.
In architecture, a deadlight is a fixed window that doesn't open.
The captain ordered all deadlights secured before the storm.
