dead leg

Punched thigh muscle

A dead leg is the temporary numbness and pain caused by a hard blow to the thigh muscle, usually from someone's knee.

Common in contact sports and playground roughhousing, it makes the leg feel heavy and unresponsive for a few minutes: He gave me a dead leg and I could barely walk.

Also called a charley horse or corked thigh.
