day of infamy
December seventh, remembered
A day of infamy is a date remembered for catastrophic or treacherous events.
The phrase comes from President Franklin Roosevelt's speech after the 1941 Pearl Harbor attack: "a date which will live in infamy." It now applies to any historically dark moment: September 11 became another day of infamy.
