A dag is a hanging end of cloth, or a piece of matted, dung-caked wool cut from around a sheep's hindquarters.
In Australian and New Zealand slang, dag describes an unfashionable or amusingly eccentric person—someone daggy: He's a bit of a dag, but everyone loves him.
The insult carries affection rather than real contempt.
