cytoreduction
Surgical mass removal
Cytoreduction is a surgical procedure to remove as much of a tumor as possible, typically used when complete removal isn't feasible.
The term appears most often in treating ovarian and peritoneal cancers, where surgeons aim to reduce tumor burden before chemotherapy: The patient underwent cytoreduction followed by six cycles of treatment.
Also called debulking surgery.
