bump key

Tumbler manipulation tool

A bump key is a specially cut key used to open pin tumbler locks without the original key.

The key is inserted and struck sharply while turning, causing the pins to jump momentarily and allowing the lock to open.

Bump keys are used by locksmiths and, controversially, by burglars: The security consultant demonstrated how easily the door could be opened with a bump key.
