crostata

Rustic Italian pastry

A crostata is an Italian tart, typically made with a shortcrust pastry base and filled with fruit preserves, fresh fruit, or ricotta.

Unlike American pies, a crostata has a rustic, free-form appearance—the edges are folded roughly over the filling rather than crimped into a perfect edge: She made a simple apricot crostata for dessert.
