American pie
Classic national pastry
American pie refers to things considered quintessentially American—wholesome values, small-town life, traditional culture.
The phrase gained currency from Don McLean's 1971 song about the loss of American innocence, with its refrain about "the day the music died." Apple pie remains the literal American pie, a symbol of home and tradition: as American as apple pie.
The term also titles a 1999 comedy film series known for raunchy teen humor.
