crosstree
Horizontal mast timber
Crosstrees are horizontal beams attached to a ship's mast, spreading the shrouds that support the mast above.
They form a platform where the lower and upper sections of a mast meet, providing structural support and a place for sailors to stand while working aloft.
Usually used in the plural: The lookout climbed to the crosstrees.
