countershot

Opposite camera view

A countershot is a camera angle that shows what a character is looking at or the person they're speaking to, typically used in film and television to create visual dialogue between subjects.

In the classic shot/countershot pattern, the camera alternates between two characters in conversation: The director cut to a countershot of her reaction.

The technique establishes spatial relationships and emotional dynamics between characters.
