scene-setter
Establishes the atmosphere
A scene-setter is something that establishes context or atmosphere before the main event.
In journalism, a scene-setter is a background piece that orients readers before major coverage: The reporter filed a scene-setter from the convention floor.
More broadly, anything that prepares an audience—an opening remark, a prologue, ambient music—can serve as a scene-setter.
