countermines
Underground defensive passages
Countermines are mines placed to intercept or destroy enemy mines.
In military tunneling, a countermine is dug to detect or collapse enemy tunnels before they reach fortifications.
The verb countermine means to thwart by countermining, or more broadly, to defeat someone's schemes with opposing tactics: They countermined his political maneuvering with leaks to the press.
