cottonwood trees
White-fluff shedding poplars
Cottonwood trees are large, fast-growing North American poplars found along rivers and streams.
They're named for the cottony white fluff that surrounds their seeds and drifts through the air in early summer: The cottonwood was shedding, covering the lawn like snow.
The soft wood has limited commercial value, but the trees provide shade and wildlife habitat.
