bosque
Cottonwood river stand
Bosque is a Spanish word for forest or woodland, used in English primarily in the American Southwest to describe the dense groves of trees—especially cottonwoods and willows—that grow along rivers and streams in otherwise arid landscapes: We hiked through the bosque along the Rio Grande.
The term reflects the Spanish colonial heritage of the region.
