cornerman
Fighter's ring aide
A cornerman is a boxer's assistant who works from the corner of the ring between rounds—applying ice, stopping cuts, offering water and tactical advice.
The term extends to anyone providing close support during a difficult situation: He's been my cornerman through every crisis.
In some contexts, a cornerman is a lookout or assistant in street-level drug dealing.
