confetti drop
Colorful paper shower
A confetti drop is the release of confetti from above, typically at a celebration's climax—midnight on New Year's Eve, a championship victory, a concert finale.
The term covers both the event itself and the mechanism: The confetti drop in Times Square marks the new year.
Large venues use ceiling-mounted systems; smaller events might use handheld launchers or simple bags.
