commentating

Describing the action

Commentating is providing live commentary, especially for sporting events or broadcasts.

The word is a back-formation from commentator—someone who commentates is doing what commentators do: She's been commentating on tennis matches for twenty years.

Some usage guides prefer "commenting," but commentating has established itself in broadcast contexts.
