cohorting

Forming stable groups

Cohorting is the practice of grouping people together and keeping them separate from other groups, typically to limit disease transmission.

Schools and hospitals cohort students or patients so that if infection occurs, it stays contained within one group: The daycare center used cohorting to manage the outbreak.

The term gained wide currency during the COVID-19 pandemic.
