cog wheel
Rotating toothed disc
A cog wheel is a wheel with teeth around its edge that mesh with the teeth of another wheel to transmit motion—also called a gear or cogwheel.
The term appears in mechanical contexts and in figurative use: just a cog in the machine describes someone as a small, replaceable part of a larger system.
