spur gear
Simple meshing wheel
A spur gear is the simplest and most common type of gear, with straight teeth cut parallel to the axis of rotation.
These gears mesh with other spur gears on parallel shafts to transmit power and motion, found in everything from clocks to automobile transmissions.
Because the teeth engage abruptly rather than gradually, spur gears tend to be noisier than helical gears but are easier and cheaper to manufacture.
