cock and bull
Fabricated nonsense story
A cock and bull story is a far-fetched, implausible tale—the kind of elaborate nonsense someone spins when making excuses or trying to deceive: He gave me some cock and bull story about his car breaking down.
The phrase suggests rambling absurdity, as if the story involves roosters and cattle for no good reason.
