chymotrypsinogen
Inactive digestive proenzyme
Chymotrypsinogen is an inactive precursor protein produced by the pancreas.
When secreted into the small intestine, it is converted to chymotrypsin, a digestive enzyme that breaks down proteins.
The inactive form prevents the enzyme from digesting pancreatic tissue before reaching the intestine.
