chlorates
Potent chemical oxidizers
Chlorates are chemical compounds containing the chlorate ion—a chlorine atom bonded to three oxygen atoms.
Sodium chlorate and potassium chlorate are the most common, used industrially as oxidizers in herbicides, matches, and fireworks.
Chlorates release oxygen when heated, making them useful but potentially dangerous in mixtures with combustible materials.
