child protective services
Youth safety bureau
Child protective services is a government agency that investigates reports of child abuse and neglect, and intervenes when children's safety is at risk.
Often abbreviated CPS, it operates at the state or county level in the United States.
CPS can remove children from homes, place them in foster care, and work with families toward reunification: CPS showed up after a teacher reported bruises on the kid.
