sole custody
One-parent legal control
Sole custody is a legal arrangement in which one parent has exclusive rights and responsibilities for a child, including decisions about education, healthcare, and daily care.
The other parent may have visitation rights but no authority over major decisions.
Courts typically award sole custody when one parent is deemed unfit or when parents cannot cooperate: She was granted sole custody after the divorce.
