chapman
Traveling goods hawker
A chapman is an itinerant trader or peddler—someone who travels from place to place selling goods.
The word is archaic, surviving mainly in British place names and surnames.
A cheapjack is a similar figure.
The chapman arrived at the village fair with ribbons and trinkets.
