change-ringing
Patterned bell sequences
Change-ringing is a method of ringing church bells in which a team of ringers sounds bells in continuously varying sequences rather than repeating a fixed pattern.
Each bell sounds once per round, but the order changes according to mathematical permutations.
The practice originated in England and remains associated with Anglican church towers.
The village church has a society devoted to change-ringing.
