cedar carving
Sculpted aromatic wood
Cedar carving is the art of carving western red cedar, particularly associated with Indigenous peoples of the Pacific Northwest Coast.
The soft, straight-grained wood lends itself to totem poles, masks, canoes, and decorative panels.
The term may also refer to any individual carved cedar object: The museum's cedar carvings date to the 1880s.
