catchers' mitts
Padded catching gloves
Catchers' mitts are the heavily padded gloves worn by baseball and softball catchers to receive pitches.
Unlike standard fielding gloves, they have extra padding and a closed web design to absorb the impact of fastballs and protect the hand.
The singular is catcher's mitt: He broke in his new catcher's mitt during spring training.
