castellations
Wall's defensive notches
Castellations are the notched, tooth-like projections along the top of a castle wall or tower—the alternating raised portions (merlons) and gaps (crenels) that allowed defenders to shoot while taking cover.
The pattern appears decoratively on buildings meant to evoke medieval fortresses: The library's castellations gave it a Gothic appearance.
In electronics, castellations are the half-moon notches along circuit board edges used for soldering.
